Looking for an easy, affordable way to enjoy the lake? Join one of our Public Cruises offered Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 12 PM, 3 PM, and 6 PM. These lower‑cost cruises are open to everyone, so you may share the boat with other guests — perfect for casual outings, small groups, or anyone who just wants to relax on the water.

Our family went on a two-hour tour of the lakes with Judy on one of her pontoon boats. The boat was comfortable, the trip was relaxing, and Judy was a terrific guide, with extensive knowledge of both the lakes themselves and many of the surrounding homes. She was a lot of fun to spend time with. Great way to spend a summer evening.

Wanted to see the lakes while home for a visit. Signed up to do the public cruise. We had to deal with weather but Judy made sure we got our cruise in before our vacation was over. Cathy was the captain for us and was fun and knowledgeable about the lakes. I would recommend the cruise for just a quite trip around they lakes or use them to book a party.

For our 5th anniversary, my husband and I took a cruise yesterday and it was awesome! Captain Pat was the best part of the experience-she’s very knowledgeable about all things Portage Lakes, and is riotously funny 😆 The other folks on the boat were a lot of fun as well. I highly recommend!

A nice 2 hour afternoon ride-Captain Steve was a friendly tour leader. Lots of interesting and beautiful houses of all shapes and sizes along the shore. Good website , easy to book and they sent us a detailed photo of where to board. Cold water and chips were provided. Would do again!

So nice! Judy answered all my inquiries on the phone and quick to text back when I had more. Al was our Captain. He was a lot of fun. He gave us a lot of interesting history of the area, the waterway, and the houses. Oh, and the birds too! The boat was clean and very comfortable. A very beautiful day!

Excellent trip third time we did this. We needed a cart for my 71 yo sis and they provided that. Always a great time. Everyone very friendly nice calm boat ride saw all the lakes and very informative. Always provide water each and snacks. Highly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

We run our cruises rain or shine if the rain is light and it’s warm out. We have cover over half of the boat and carry ponchos and umbrellas.  If it’s cold or if there are storms are in our area we will reschedule your cruise to a different time or date without charge.  If that isn’t possible we will issue a gift card or refund your purchase price.  

Yes, there are enough PFDs (Personal Floatation Devices)  for adults and children on each boat for the full capacity of the boat.  Parents are welcome to bring their own jacket that the child is familiar with, as well.

Guests are welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages aboard.  Bottled water is provided for all cruisers, and small bags of chips are complimentary on every Private cruise.  

We can adjust the number of guests and credit your payment source with some advance notice.  Please note:  If this reduces the total number to fewer than four, the basic rate still applies and is $240.00.  

Yes!  You may add guests to the full capacity of your boat – usually 12 total.  Just call to have us add guests and charge your same card or theirs.

For big groups we often take more than one boat at a time, riding in caravan.  The guests enjoy taking photos of the other boats, and we can group together to allow everyone to mingle on the water.

For groups of 20 or more, there is a boat available that will carry up to 45 in your party.  It’s bookable as: Portage Princess-The Big Boat– – NOTE: This option is not available on weekends or holidays.    Please call for more information or assistance planning & booking.

Wheelchair usage requires special handling and is only available at the Old State Park location.  A standard width wheelchair can be brought aboard. 

There are ten stairs at Pick’s location.  Please notify us in advance if assistance is needed.  

There are no stairs to navigate at the State Park location.

Our service is available from May 1 to September 30 each year.  Some dates may be arranged earlier or later, weather permitting.  Please call to inquire about booking before or after our usual dates.

While tipping is not required, it is certainly appreciated.  Your Captain/Guide puts a lot of effort into your experience and tipping is a great way to show your appreciation. 

Dogs are welcome on Private Cruises.  Please bring a blanket or towel to protect our seats from sharp toenails, and also a bowl for water.
