Captain’s Log

Portage Lakes Cruises was formed in May, 2013 by Judy Narducci, a life-long resident of Portage Lakes.  A graduate of Coventry High School, Judy is a member of several local organizations: Portage Lakes Historical Society, Friends of the Library, and the Order of Eastern Star, to name a few.  Judy worked for many years as a nurse at a local Senior Healthcare facility, and retired from that position in June, 2015.

Being raised locally but never having access to the water other than swimming at Craftsmen’s Park as a little girl, Judy really enjoys getting out on the water now that she is able to boat there.  This business grew out of the notion that other people would enjoy being out on the water as much as she does if they had a boat on which they could be as comfortable.  ” I want to take people out to see the Lakes the way the ‘locals’ do”,  explains ‘Captain’ Judy.  She has long enjoyed entertaining friends aboard the boat, showing them the many fascinating aspects of the region she loves.

What does the future hold for this business?  Judy has enjoyed being out on the water, doing what she loves.  She half-jokingly has said: “Maybe I’ll have a fleet of charter boats someday”.  That dream is coming true – in 2015 two new boats made their debut: The Blue Boat and the VIP boat were added, and Captain Lorie Sasin was added to the staff.  Captains Kathy Walters-Hawk and  Kay Lukac joined the crew in 2016. This year we welcome Captain Angela Payerle and a few other ground crew members – and this rounds out a great team.  The original boat, named ‘It’s All Good’ now resembles a comfy porch-like and nautically decorated outdoor room. The blue boat, named “No Worries’ has been renovated with vinyl flooring which allows it to be used for groups with dogs as well as for fishing tours. We’ve added a second VIP boat and can use the Portage Princess for groups of 30 or more. Look at our ‘Specialty Cruises’ page for other new ideas.
The public, open seating cruises now let you cruise without bringing a whole group together, and offer a lower fare. Come out on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday at 9am, 2pm, or 6pm and cruise with other like-minded passengers. Reserve your space online by clicking on our BOOK NOW button at the top of this page.
You’ll find that large volume groups enjoy special discounted rates when the boat is filled, and children age 2 and under always ride free. It is our goal to keep rates family friendly. Our new computer program makes it super easy to arrange your cruise, so try it and book online!

Newest addition: Tour on the Portage Princess!  In 2017 Judy and crew renovated the ‘BIG BOAT’ that was previously bright orange and rarely seen on the water to be gray an white and nautically decorated and is now seen out several times a week!  It holds up to 50 people comfortably – check it out for your groups of 20 or more.

So come aboard, kick off your shoes, and enjoy the ride.
